Annesley at Royal County Down
Measuring a modest 4,548 yards from the back tees, the Annesley course offers a unique challenge, devoid of par-five holes and featuring only one par-four exceeding 350 yards. Notably, six of its holes are par-threes, contributing to a distinct and engaging golfing experience.
Despite its brevity, the course proves to be a formidable test, requiring strategic play as drivers may find themselves unnecessary on the journey through undulating fairways that wind through the dunes adjacent to the renowned Championship course.
The most captivating stretch of holes unfolds between the 5th and 15th, featuring short, narrow fairways that lead to small, undulating greens—some in plain view, while others remain hidden. These firm and fast greens, coupled with the challenging layout, ensure that achieving the par of 66 is a rare accomplishment.
In 2015, Mackenzie & Ebert orchestrated a significant redesign of the Annesley course, introducing three new holes around the turn. These additions seamlessly weave through the towering dunes in the northeast corner of the property, enhancing the overall golfing experience.
